The United Nations will require Israel to pay Lebanon nearly $1 billion for environmental damages caused during the 2006 Second Lebanon War, the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar reported on Saturday. (Haaretz)
Once again the UN shows that it is only able to count the cost caused by Israel’s defense on others rather than the cost to Israel for being attacked.
60 years later we still hear about the Displaced Arabs who moved because their cousins wanted to attack Israel.
Now we have the country that attacked Israel asking for compensation done in a defensive war.
When will it end?
This is also proof that Israel won the war, as you never ask the looser to pay (look at world wars 1 and 2).

ryan – what a complex web of double standards you weave..
shimshon – its not worth the debate – unless you want to start a wikiflush of links.. this guy is so removed from the facts that he needs to edcuate himself first ..
all these people who signed up for this service makes it easier to deal with programs thats have a lot to do with the conern of business ethics.
The UN has made so many anit Irael and inti free world and pro Islamist terrorist resolutions that it’s time the west just told the UN to go stuff itself and form an alliance of true democratic secular nations where religion as rule or law has no place at all in it.
Israel should start the process by dropping a big fat strategic nuke in Lebanon.
I was referring to today. From what I understand, the Lebanese gpvernment did not want the battle, nor did they want it to continue as long as it did. Hezbollah acted on it’s own. (Actually, it was probably taking orders from Syria) The Lebanese army did not get involved. Is that not their country? Something is not quite right here.
Sorry, I did not mean to imply that this was not just another battle in the war. Actually, this war began as soon as Islam lost control of the area. It will continue until they regain control of the entire area. It is ‘occupied’ land until this occurs. It does not matter who is right or wrong in any other context. This is one of the little points about Islam that must change.
The Zionist army circa 1940 was just as private as Hezbollah is today. You seem to disagree with me that the war in Lebanon was another battle in the war that’s been going on since the Zionists declared ownership of Jerusalem. That’s the only way I can rationalize your analogy. Moreover, Israel and Lebanon were at the time and still are in a state of war. Israel invated in 1982 and there has never been a peace agreement signed by the warring parties. What happened in 2006 was just another battle in a very long war.
Can’t have private armies. Period. (By private, I mean armed organizations that are not under the control of the government of the country. I can’t imagine the problems if we had armies like Hezbollah running around in our country.)
If attacks were being launched from Mexico in any way similar to what is happening from Lebanon, the U.S. army would invade. We have in the past. I sure as hell hope we would do the same today. I do not expect other countries to behave differently than we would in this context.
The people who were praying about Jerusalem lived a thousand miles away. They went there and took over, kicking out and otherwise mistreating the locals. That was not justified, it was simply stealing. The locals and their descendants are still pissed. If Mexicans who’d spent a century praying for the return of Arizona went and took over Phoenix the USA would not rest until we got back what was ours.
The notion that the justice of taking governing control over a plot of land is determined by how an ancient religious book talks about things is simply too far gone for me to comprehend. What the thousand year old book says is totally irrelevant.
Where did you get those ideas from? The Jews are praying for Jerusalem for centuries. Have you been in Jerusalem recently? Compare it to the Jerusalem it was before the Israelis took care of it. It is not even mentioned in the Koran!
The UN is a waste of space, but the root cause of the problem is Israelis wanting to run things and make the laws for Jerusalem, which is an Arab city they have no business governing.
So Lebanon stands idly by while Hezbollah starts war with Israel and when Israel responds the UN fingers Israel as totally at fault and orders it to pay Lebanon for damages. If it wasn`t so outrageous it would be funny. But then again, what else would one expect from the UN?
During the war Hezzy fired 4000 Katusha rockets into Israeli cities and towns, causing extensive damage, injuries and death. But yet you don`t see the UN ordering Lebanon to pay any damages to Israel. Talk about a vicious double standard!
The UN is a waste of space.
When I was a kid we had a rule about fault based around who started it. The Lebanon war was a battle in war that’s been going on a long time. And that war was started by Israelis who have no business trying to live there as anything other than citizens of the local countries. Otherwise America is going to have plots of land cordoned off by Mexicans who say it’s their god given right to make the laws inside.
