“There can be no peace without Hamas”

A Hamas leader has asked President Obama to engage with his militant movement, rather than marginalize, it in a letter that was passed through United Nations officials in Gaza to Senator John Kerry, Democrat of Massachusetts, during a visit there on Thursday. The two-page document was drafted by Ahmed Yousef, the Hamas deputy foreign minister, who asked Obama to engage with his movement, rather than marginalize it:

There can be no peace without Hamas, We congratulated Mr. Obama on his presidency and reminded him that he should live up to his promise to bring real change to the region. The Palestinian issue is the key to resolving all the problems in the area. We also said that Mr. Kerry’s visit to Gaza showed that the new administration has a clarity of vision and is not controlled by Israeli propaganda. (The New York Times)”

So now they want peace? Did they mention that they would be willing to agree to a long term cease-fire with Israel? Didn’t think so. Let’s see how this new relationship will develope since Obama is prepared to talk to Hamas!

  • Only temporary peace, that's what they want. I do not think that they will stop until Israel is destroyed, literary. I'm interested to see the results of the talks, but I'm very skeptical about the results. What solution is there? Israel has proposed a two state solution which was rejected.
